Something New Begins

Shalom Aleichem!

First, I really want to and feel the need to say “Thank You” to all of you. You have come here, and I’ll be honest I haven’t been quick to post updates and give you information, and I am sorry for that. But I want you to know how much I appreciate you, all of you, for being here and for showing interest in my universe. It means a lot to me, and I hope the things that we are doing and preparing to do in the coming year will make it all worth the while. We have a lot of announcements to come, and I hope you will all be onboard for those announcements and changes coming. So, keep watch.

So, without further ado, here is the “First” blog post. Yeah, you read that right, a blog post. A lot of crazy things have been happening over the past couple years. I have been working on a number of different projects. I have had artists working for me non-stop since 2020, and it has just been going crazy since. We are building a website.  We are getting ready to set up a couple of different social media sites that are going to be dedicated to the Modihu Chronicles and the Universe that encompasses it. So, I hope that is as exciting for you as it is for us.

I have been asked by one of my friends where all this began. I had to consider that for a couple moments. The Modihu Chronicles has spanned the last twenty-five years. It started as part of a role-playing campaign. It took place on the world of Asea, or something like that, and it surrounded this valley known simply as “The Wizard’s Vale”. It took off and transformed from a fantasy campaign with elves, orcs, humans, and dwarves running around the world trying to right wrongs and fight the expansionist tendencies of a demon lord, to launching into space, with vast fleets and massive campaigns, still led and run by elves, dwarves, humans and orcs… and maybe a dragon or two.

Twenty-five years ago, we contemplated massive crystalline structures that sucked the power out of Modihu children created by supernatural beings bent on destroying humanity. That went to the wayside, but the idea of a people, born from a union of all the fantasy races, coming together to create a place where all could live in peace and unity. It hasn’t always been that way. They’ve had their problems, but they have remained united through the course of that quarter century.

I cannot claim that the universe is mine alone. I have had friends who have jumped onto the path from time to time, adding their influence on the growing universe, and it has made it far greater and more flavorful story with their touch added to it. It has exploded, and grown, and become something far beyond what I first imagined that night, long ago, on my friend’s couch in Meridian Idaho, 1999. I haven’t been able to stop playing in this Universe, and I wouldn’t turn away from these new friends, these characters that have come into being as the story has grown before my eyes. I love being here and getting to learn their stories.

In twenty-five years, this story has taken on a life of its own. It has become something far larger and greater than anything I imagined. So, as we come to the end of 2022, two years since launching the novelette “Blades and Shadows”, I am looking forward to seeing what happens from here. I am excited, and a little scared to see what is going to happen in the Modihu Chronicles. I am really hoping you will enjoy this ride right alongside of me.

As I am writing this to you, I’m working on “The Journal of Larael”, a prequel story surrounding the character of Larael. Larael is the mother of the Modihu. I thought it was important to tell her story. I also have planned “the Journal of Winter”, “the Journal of Aine”, and “the Journal of Devor”. All of them are important to the foundation of what is to come.

I am excited to have teamed up with First Book Coaching and Max Gorlovand Anna Schechter to help me get through this book. I am really looking forward to having them on this journey. And I give a great deal of thanks to my mentor Ted Dekker for his great instruction. I highly recommend his course, The Creative Way if you get the opportunity to take it. But most of all I do thank and praise God for His putting the creative bug in my spirit and never letting it go out… no matter how bad I wished it might have gone out a time or two. It would have been easier, but today, I am so glad it hasn’t. This is an awesome place to be. It is awesome to work with incredible people like Mike Bakker, Timothee Mathon, Tessa Geniets, Chasen Greishop, Charles Sutton, Patricia Pria, Daniel Irving Decena, Efosa Promise Efosa, Nora Nina, Barbara Baldenegro, Dimas, Robustaart, and many, many more. Thank you, my friends, and to those who are coming on board and will come on board. I am thrilled with the work you have done and the work that is coming down the pipe.

So, I hate info dumps and long narratives, so I will end this here. All I can say is that 2023 is shaping up to be an interesting year. There are going to be some exciting new stuff coming your way, and I look forward to taking this journey with you. Thank you for your support over these past few years, and I look forward to many more years and exciting journeys to take with you all.

Peace,

Brian Harrison
